The site for Habitat for Humanity International – has many fact sheets, stories and statistics on housing, both in the US and Internationally.

Massachusetts Housing Finance Agency
This site has a lot of information including: first-time homebuyer assistance under the “General Lending” program, homebuyer counseling, info on FreshRate (a program for those who can afford monthly payments, but don’t have a down payment), and lists of Foreclosed Properties.

Mass. Dept. of Housing and Community Development
This site has many links and some program descriptions, but they have an excellent summary titled “How to Obtain Housing Assistance in Massachusetts“.

Massachusetts Housing Partnership Fund
This site describes the first-time home-owner program funded by the state called “Soft Second Loan Program”. Under this program, the government subsidizes a portion of the mortgage to allow people to qualify for a home, when they may not meet traditional income guidelines.

Citizens’ Housing and Planning Association of Massachusetts
Citizens’ Housing and Planning Association (CHAPA) is the non-profit umbrella organization for affordable housing and community development activities throughout Massachusetts. Established in 1967, CHAPA is the only statewide group which represents all interests in the housing field, including non-profit and for-profit developers, homeowners, tenants, bankers, real estate brokers, property managers, government officials, and others.

Housing and Urban Development (HUD)
HUD is the housing agency of the federal government and offers advice, first-time home buyer programs (some are targeted, such as for police officers or teachers) and properties for sale. This is their home buyer site.
