Those workers you see busily sawing wood and hammering nails at the building sites are only some of our 500 volunteers. Most people are surprised to learn that we need lots of skills, behind the scene, to support the building efforts. You can work as much or as little as you like with these committees, and most of the work can be done from home. Most committees meet monthly.
Volunteer and Be Part of the Solution
Grant Writing: To augment donations of cash and building supplies, we should apply for grants. This volunteer can seek grants and/or train other volunteers in this skill.
Volunteer Coordinator: Make phone calls from your own home to line up workers and suppliers of lunches.
Cook: Offer to supply food for coffee breaks and lunches at the work site.
Building Committee: Coordinates all design/building activities; secures contractors when necessary; meets once/month
Construction Supervisors: A qualified construction supervisor must be present at each project on work days. Wednesdays, skilled volunteers work. On Saturdays, volunteers from churches and the public join them. Carpenters, electricians, plumbers and other tradesmen are always welcome, particularly on a continuing basis.
Office Help: Our office at 38 North Main Street, Carver is open Mon., Wed., and Fri. from 1-3 pm. Volunteer staff are needed to answer the phone and do other office tasks.
Church Relations Committee: Interfaces w/all church partners for volunteers & other support functions; meets as needed
Family Selection Committee: Notify, interview, research potential Family Partners; recommend course of action to Board of Directors
Family Support Committee: Work with selected partner family during building of home: addressing relevant info, monitoring “sweat equity” and any family concerns; meets 3 to 4 times/yr.
Finance Committee: Prepares all financial reports and filings; maintains books; ensures financial integrity; some relevant background desired
Fund Development Committee: Helps w/ existing fundraisers, grant writing or chair new fundraiser; meets once/month or as needed
Nominating Committee: Oversees human resources for committees and Board; recommends additions as needed
Public Relations Committee: Public Relations Comm. – Coordinates all press releases, website, newsletter, interviews, contacts w/ media; attends community and special events; meets once/month
Site Selection Committee: Locates/selects land suitable for house construction; background in real estate, law, title examining, or town govt. helpful; meets once/month.
Special Projects: Plans & organizes schedules & volunteers for short-term projects, e.g., handicap ramps; work done on Sat. & during week when possible.
