The Application Process

Prospective homeowners are required to attend aHousing Application Meeting in order to apply for a Greater Plymouth Habitat home. Applications are only available at these meetings. We do not have a waiting list and do not mail applications.

Families who can demonstrate a severe housing need, whose income is within Habitat guidelines and who are financially qualified are encouraged to apply to purchase a home. Families will be chosen without respect to age, sex, sexual preference, disability, race, religion, or national origin.

Income Guidelines

There is a minimum income of $30,000. Gross income can be no more than the following:

2 people $36,750
3 people $41,350
4 people $45,900
5 people $49,600
6 people $53,250
7 people $56,950
8 people $60,600

Families with disabled members who need special facilities can be accommodated. If you are interested in homeownership opportunities with Habitat for Humanity of Greater Plymouth and there are no Housing Application Meetings scheduled, please provide us with your name, mailing address, phone number, and email address.

At the Housing Application Meetings, prospective homeowners will receive a six-page application. The application will ask for the following:

  • Current Living Situation: Current living arrangements, sources of income, cost of rent, who currently lives with the prospective homeowners, who would live with the prospective homeowners in the Habitat home.
  • Financial Information: Savings, pensions, investments, bankruptcies, tax liens, credit history, family budget worksheet, proof of income, last 2 years Federal Tax Return and W2 forms.
  • Employment Information: Current employer’s information, job history, job title, income.Top

Prospective homeowners will be asked to write a short letter describing how Habitat for Humanity of Greater Plymouth can help their family with their housing situation.

The Application Process Timeline

Application to Qualification takes 6-8 weeks

After receiving an application at one of the Housing Application Meetings, prospective homeowners will be given about two weeks to fill it out. Applications must be returned on the specified date to Habitat for Humanity of Greater Plymouth, P.O. Box 346, Carver, MA 02330.

About 2-3 weeks after applications are returned, the Family Selection Committee will call to arrange for a home visit to interview the applicants and to inspect the current housing situation. Whenever possible, home visits are scheduled at the prospective homeowner’s convenience. The Family Selection Committee will review and verify all the information on the applications and present several qualified families to the Board of Director’s, who will make the final decision. All applicants will be notified verbally and in writing of the Board’s decision. If families wish to apply for future Habitat homes, they must attend a new Housing Application Meeting and fill out an updated application.

Please be aware that Habitat is building a limited number of houses and cannot satisfy all of the Greater Plymouth housing needs. Top

Habitat for Humanity of Greater Plymouth Homes.

We build simple, affordable quality and decent homes.

Habitat homes are designed to fit the architecture and landscape of the neighborhood as well as the zoning requirements of the town.

A typical Habitat home approximately 1100 square feet and has three bedrooms, a full kitchen, and a dining area/living room. One-story homes have one bathroom and two-story homes have one and a half bathrooms. Homes come equipped with a new stove and refrigerator. The homes are energy-efficient and are designed to be as maintenance-free as possible.

All homes can be built to accommodate people with disabilities according to ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act).

Our homes are built under the direction of a licensed Site Supervisor according to the Massachusetts Building Code Regulation.

The typical home takes about seven month to complete. Top

We are always working on trying to obtain buildable land in Carver, Kingston, Lakeville, Middleboro, Plymouth and Plympton. If you would like to donate land to Habitat please contact our office administrator and she will get you in touch with a member of our Site Selection Team. Top
